Kiva, Adobe, Kachinas - 1/100 - Cibachrome prints by Thomas Mattson - 1998 Santa Barbara, CA. Over 600 artworks were submitted for consideration in the show at SBCC, only 40 finalists were choosen. " I was suprised and very happy to have made the cut and get in the show. The small images show has always been one of my favorites. This was a nice boost to get me back into doing personal work." said Thomas. He later found out that he was the only artist that had all 3 submissions accepted. Small Images reviewed in the Santa Barbara Independent 10.10.02 "...the annual Small Images exhibition at SBCC really is one of the bigger deals in the history of Santa Barbara's art scene. For decades it has arrived like clockwork, always bringing out a varied and generally strong assortment of art and artists, familiar and otherwise. ...Tom Mattson's raw cibachromes of a no-mans landscape evoke environmental fragility." Small Images at SBCC ran 9.27.02 through 10.25.02. Kiva, Adobe, Kachinas were awarded Honorable Mention. Kiva, Adobe, Kachinas are part of a series shot in the Winter of 1998 on the Navajo and Hopi Indian Nations, located in Northeastern Arizona and New Mexico. The series explores the contrast between the romanticized images typically produced in the Western art genre and the current environment. Please contact: Thomas for more information or pricing.
